Directories by product type

Not every directory takes every product. Each one states who it takes, and LaunchDistro matches on the product types you tick in your profile: a directory that would turn your product away is marked not a fit with the reason, before your agent opens a form. These guides say what each kind of product should have ready and where it goes wrong.

SaaS and web apps

The widest set: launch platforms, software comparison and review sites, startup databases and general product lists. Most directories take a web product, and a few are for something else (downloadable software, local businesses), which match marks as not a fit.

Right now 239 directories with a playbook take a product like this, and 6 of them are for this kind of product only. More are added every week.

Have ready:

  • A live URL anyone can open, and open signup without a sales call
  • A public pricing page: many forms ask for pricing and some read it
  • A square logo and a landscape cover image
  • A privacy policy page

Watch for:

  • Many free listings ask for a badge or link back on your site: answer once in the profile (Will you show one?)
  • Some lists rank by upvotes or need a minimum domain rating for a free link; the row says so before you start

AI tools

AI tool directories and aggregators, on top of everything a web product gets. Some only take AI products, so the product type decides: an AI-only list turns a non-AI tool away, and an AI tool is offered them.

Right now 304 directories with a playbook take a product like this, and 71 of them are for this kind of product only. More are added every week.

Have ready:

  • A one-line description that says what the AI does, since these lists are searched by task
  • A live demo, screenshots or a short video where the form asks
  • Pricing shown plainly: free, freemium or paid

Watch for:

  • Tick AI tool only if the product is one; claiming it to reach more lists is what a directory rejects listings for
  • Several AI lists rewrite your copy with their own AI: your agent replaces it with the profile's wording

Developer tools and open source

Developer-focused directories and communities, plus the general launch platforms. Many of them look at the repository as much as the site.

Right now 238 directories with a playbook take a product like this, and 5 of them are for this kind of product only. More are added every week.

Have ready:

  • A public code repository and a README
  • Docs, and a short install or quick-start line
  • The tech stack as tags

Watch for:

  • A directory that needs a public repository is marked not a fit when the profile says you have none
  • Tick the public repository only if it is public today: an absent answer means not yet

MCP servers

MCP registries and marketplaces, which only take products with an MCP server, as well as the developer and AI lists. This is the smallest and most specific group.

Right now 242 directories with a playbook take a product like this, and 9 of them are for this kind of product only. More are added every week.

Have ready:

  • A public repository, which several registries require
  • The server's address and how to connect to it, and the tools it offers
  • A short description of what a user can ask an AI to do with it

Watch for:

  • Tick Has an MCP server, or the registries are never offered
  • Say what a user can ask an AI to do with it: that is the sentence a registry shows

Browser extensions

Extension directories and roundups, plus general product lists. A store listing is not a directory listing: you still need your own site to link to.

Right now 234 directories with a playbook take a product like this, and 1 of them are for this kind of product only. More are added every week.

Have ready:

  • A landing page with a real URL
  • Screenshots, and a demo video if you have one
  • The browsers it supports

Watch for:

  • The profile holds your site, so give your agent the store link when a form asks for it: it will not guess one

Mobile and desktop apps

App and software directories, which list downloadable software, plus the general lists. Some software sites take only downloadable apps and turn a web product away.

Right now 237 directories with a playbook take a product like this, and 4 of them are for these kinds of product only. More are added every week.

Have ready:

  • Store or download links
  • Screenshots and a square icon
  • Supported systems

Watch for:

  • Say what it is, exactly: an app is offered the app lists, and a web product that ticks it only adds directories that will turn it away

Templates, themes, integrations, Bolt projects and custom GPTs

A handful of directories exist for exactly one of these: template and theme marketplaces, integration and plugin lists, projects built with Bolt.new, and the GPT Store's third-party lists. The rest is the general set.

Right now 236 directories with a playbook take a product like this, and 3 of them are for these kinds of product only. More are added every week.

Have ready:

  • A live demo or preview
  • A clear license and price
  • What it is built with, for the Bolt and GPT lists

Watch for:

  • Tick the exact type: those directories are offered only when it is ticked
  • A template you sell is not the same as a SaaS: price it as one-time in the profile

Online shops, local businesses and affiliate programs

Product directories and shop lists for e-commerce, business listings for local businesses, and program directories for affiliates. This is a different catalog from software launch lists.

Right now 236 directories with a playbook take a product like this, and 3 of them are for these kinds of product only. More are added every week.

Have ready:

  • For a local business: name, address and phone that match everywhere
  • For a shop: a live store with real products
  • For an affiliate program: a public terms page and the payout

Watch for:

  • Local business listings need a real local business, and a startup directory is usually the wrong place for one
  • Say the country: regional directories only take products based in their region

If your product is more than one

Tick everything that fits. A directory takes your product if any of its stated types is one of yours, so an AI developer tool with an MCP server is offered the AI lists, the developer lists and the MCP registries, and a directory with no stated restriction takes any of them. Claiming a type you are not only adds directories that will reject you.

Set the answers on the product profile, or say to your agent: "Where does my product qualify?" See the profile reference for what else decides the match.

Your next 10 directory submissions are free.

Add it to Claude or Cursor, describe your product once, and watch the first form fill itself.
